PRETTYBIRD filmmakers Sophie Muller and Theo Adams re-team with pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor on her latest single, the glorious and magical disco-pop anthem 鈥楩reedom of the Night鈥. The music video is a dazzling homage to one of the most iconic videos of the noughties 鈥楳urder on the Dancefloor鈥, which Muller also directed. That music video, released in 2001 and uploaded to YouTube in 2017, currently sits at 150 million views.
Set at the 鈥楩reedom of the Night鈥 dance gala, the video nods to the renowned 鈥楳urder on the Dancefloor鈥 video, which sees Sophie Ellis-Bextor use underhand tactics to win a dance competition, connecting to the dark undertones in the joyful disco-pop song. The video shows Ellis-Bextor now playing the role of a competitive Mum, fiercely pushing for her fictional daughter to win the dance competition (spoiler - she does). With choreography from Polly Bennett, who choreographed the final dance scene in 'Saltburn', Ellis-Bextor showcases her own captivating solo dance routine alongside a cameo from one of the Strictly Come Dancing professional dancers as a fellow 鈥榙ance Mum鈥.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor says, 鈥淲e thought it would be really fun to continue the story from the 鈥楳OTD鈥 video. I am the same cunning person from the video who is trying to win but this time I鈥檓 grown up and it鈥檚 my fictional daughter who is participating in the dance competition! See if you can spot some of the links between this and the 鈥楳OTD鈥 video.鈥
