The BBC has today unveiled a multi-media campaign aimed to change the way people, particularly young people, think about and use BBC iPlayer.
As viewing habits change, the success of the streaming platform is now key to the BBC鈥檚 future. However, younger viewers sometimes assume it doesn鈥檛 have content for them.
Directed by Tim Godsall, the three 60鈥 spots see young BBC talent from popular comedy programmes, disguised as uptight, out-of-touch characters, hilariously missing the point of their own shows.
These stars include: Peaky Blinder鈥檚 stars Kate Phillips (Linda Shelby), Aimee Ffion-Edwards (Esme Shelby), Natasia Demetriou, star of Jemaine Clement鈥檚 comedy horror series 鈥榃hat We Do in the Shadows鈥, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, star of BBC One sitcom 鈥楪hosts鈥 and finally Guz Khan, writer, comedian and star of BBC Three hit 鈥楳an Like Mobeen鈥.
Dan McGolpin, Controller of BBC iPlayer, said: 鈥淏BC iPlayer has an unparalleled range of relevant programmes for viewers of all ages right across the UK, including some that you鈥檒l like but others won鈥檛. By keeping new series on iPlayer for longer and bringing back many well-loved series, there will be more choice than ever before, you might be surprised at what you find there.鈥
Kerry Moss, portfolio head of marketing for BBC iPlayer, said: 鈥淲ith 鈥榃asted on Some鈥 we wanted to show younger audiences that BBC iPlayer has incredible content made with them in mind. We were thrilled to be able to bring together incredible talent to create these hilarious caricatures.鈥
Becca Pottinger, creative director at BBC Creative, added: 鈥'Wasted on Some鈥 sees iPlayer embrace its playful side, with three irreverent films that celebrate some of the BBC鈥檚 most iconic and provocative shows鈥.
The TV spots are supported by cinema, out-of-home, digital, social and print advertising.
