Toronto production company ANIMALS has welcomed director Jannsen Powers to its roster of directorial talent. Joining for commercial representation in Canada, his signing exemplifies ANIMALS鈥 commitment to boundary-pushing creativity.
Raised in a small town in the Pacific Northwest, Janssen鈥檚 desire to see more of the world sparked a lifelong love of travel and adventure. Picking up stories from people and places along the way, his filmmaking journey began in the documentary space, as he found ways to convey his adventures on screen.
Transitioning into the commercial space, Janssen鈥檚 documentary experience continues to inform his work, as his penchant for authentic storytelling blends with compelling narratives and eye-catching visuals. His work often explores human connection and the natural world, finding ways to capture beauty that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Janssen has worked with brands including AXA, Expedia and Stella Artois, with his work achieving global recognition at the 1.4 Awards, Cannes Young Lions, the Webby Awards and more. His campaign for Stella Artois, 鈥楻锚verie鈥, was the winner of both Fashion & Lifestyle Judges Choice and Audience Choice at the 2019 Webby awards.
Janssen Powers, director, ANIMALS comments, 鈥淚'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the ANIMALS family. From the beginning, Chris, Miriana, and the entire team immediately felt like friends. Their love for filmmaking is infectious, and I can't wait to start making things together.鈥
Chris Hutsul and Miriana DiQuinzio, executive producers at ANIMALS add, 鈥淲e've admired Janssen鈥檚 work for years, but when we got to know him personally through some US jobs we produced in Toronto, we knew he was one of 鈥榰s鈥. Janssen has an innate ability to capture intimate human moments on camera, framed by a distinct, confident camera language. His shots always surprise and delight! We also appreciate Janssen鈥檚 methodical, collaborative approach to the pitching and prep process. ANIMALS couldn鈥檛 be happier to add an artist of Janssen鈥檚 stature to its roster.鈥
